Message from Karen

On Saturday, November 15, 2003, LeatherWoman Productions and Ms. San Diego Leather celebrated their 10th anniversary with a no-holds barred, let out all the stops, dressed to the nines event. The festively decorated and newly renovated GLBT Center in San Diego was the venue for this year's contest. The Imperial Court de San Diego was the co-host and ran the very popular cash bar. Submissive Voice, a local San Diego submissives' club, bought, prepared and sold the wonderful food available at the buffet. People were seen munching and sipping all evening long.

The distinguished panel of judges for this year included the head judge, Queen Cougar from Philadelphia as well as California Leatherwoman 2004, Evan; Ms. World Leather 2003 1st runner-up, Daddie Millarca; Mr. San Diego Leather 2003, Sam Bacon; Ms. San Diego Leather 2003 and American Leatherwoman 2003, sheryl dee; Mr. SoCal Fantasy 2000, Israel Hernandez and the community judge, Malcolm Miller. For the first time, Ms. San Diego Leather chose a community judge at a lottery drawing at the Meet & Greet on Friday night. Malcolm was the one chosen and, by all accounts, he had a great time and did a wonderful job as a judge.

The emcees this year were the Daddy Dana and The Lady Ajax. They kept the crowd entertained during those ever present "stretch" times. They even did an opening number faintly reminiscent of those Ab-Fab girls!! Great jobs from both of them.

Special thanks go out to Michael McKeon of bang! Graphics for the fabulous program and great posters that graced the walls of the auditorium. The posters were taken by judges and community members as souvenirs.

The evening opened with a wonderful color guard ceremony, which included women in full dress military uniforms carrying the military flags and men in full dress leathers carrying the national, state, gay pride and leather pride flags. Princess Royale, Satin, sang a perfectly executed rendition of "God Bless America" and then the show started!

First up was Ms. San Diego Leather 2003's step-down fantasy, which was a continuation of her fantasy from last year. If you've ever wondered what happened to the girl once she left the stage with her Ma'am, it was answered for you in this fantasy!! Great job by both sheryl and Suzy.

Then everyone had a chance to meet the contestants for Ms. San Diego Leather 2004. The three contestants, Karen Yew, Stacey and Lenette, were all charming, beautiful and poised. Their fantasies were as diverse as they are and all were very entertaining. All three speeches were given from the heart of the woman giving them. The on stage questions this year were pulled from questions submitted by the community members that attended the Meet & Greet at the San Diego Eagle on Friday night.

After the competition part of the contest was over and while the scores were being tallied, the audience was entertained by yet another wonderful song by Satin, as well as a very romantic Latin number done by our own Tone Puente.

Right before the entertainment began, Kim and Annie brought together all the women that had ever run for Ms. San Diego Leather and together they all blew out ten candles on the fabulous cake made for them by Robert Rodriguez, Mr. So. Cal Latin Leather 2003.

Then it was the famous "moment of truth". The three contestants were brought back up on stage and Kim and Annie made the announcement: 2nd runner-up was Lenette, 1st runner-up was Stacey and Ms. San Diego Leather 2004 is Karen Yew!! Since these three women bonded so completely, they have all vowed to work together throughout the year to support each other, Karen and the San Diego leather community. Karen was presented with the newest version of the Ms. San Diego Leather back shield. The logo was designed by bang! and the shield itself was made by MacLeo Leather.

Each contestant was presented with gift baskets filled over the brims with gracious donations from local stores within Hillcrest and greater San Diego. Big thank you's to Papa Jo and Daddy Dana for all their hard work in procuring the donations. A special note of thanks to the San Diego Bears for the "Ted-E-Bears" and 1-year memberships that were donated to the baskets.

It was a great night for one and all. LeatherWoman Productions would like to extend an sincere thank you to all who attended their 10th Anniversary event. Here's to 10 more years of service, fun and leather!!!
