Ms. San Diego Leather - sheryl dee, 2003
On Saturday, November 2nd 2002, the panel of seven judges chose sheryl dee
as Ms. San Diego Leather 2003 and Suzy Koenigs as First runner-up. sheryl
has been an active volunteer and lecturer in the San Diego community for
over 5 years and will serve as both a leader and a representative for San
Diego at local and out-of-town Leather events. sheryl will have the
opportunity to represent San Diego at International Ms. Leather, Ms. World
Leather or American Brotherhood Weekend in 2003.
The Ms. San Diego Leather contest was held at The Hole in Point Loma. The
audience included many local and out of town guests, international, national
and local titleholders. The Master of Ceremonies for the evening was Dyke
Daddy Dana Allsup of San Diego. The night prior to the contest, the
community had the opportunity to meet the MC, judges and contestants at a
meet-n-greet.
An incredible line-up of judges was assembled which consisted of Head Judge
Jill Carter, International Ms Leather 1996 & Owner/Producer of Ms. World
Leather; Russ Cosgrove, International Ms. Leather 2002; Stephen Weber,
International Mr. Leather 2002; Herve Bernard, International Mr. Drummer
1998; Ren Davis Phoenix, San Francisco Dyke Daddy and Dyke Diva Producer;
Tom Dickerson, Mr. San Diego Leather 2002 and Renata Millet, Ms. Deaf San
Diego Leather 2002.
The process of selecting Ms. San Diego Leather 2003 started off early
Saturday morning where the contestants were interviewed by the judging
panel. During the contest, the contestants made various appearances,
addressed the audience with a 90 second speech, and provided the spectators
an opportunity to witness their leather fantasies.
Christina Monet of the Imperial Court de San Diego provided entertainment.
Borrowing from Linda Cox's well-known dialog, Dana Allsup and Jo Romano-Blas
were able to raise funds by exploiting everyone's desire to shut them up as
they refused to stop talking about, "women's monthly cycles and feminine
hygiene products" until a specific amount was raised. They were successful.
The contest concluded when the judges final tally was verified and presented
to the MC. Annie Romano-Blas and Kim Sontag, owners/producers of the
contest, presented the contestants with medallions, gift baskets which
totaled over $1300, and the new Ms. San Diego Leather, sheryl dee, with her
title sash and shield.
